Emergency medical services

ISSUE SUMMARY

The provision of readily accessible, high quality, emergency medical services to Kansas citizens is a vital public service through which morbidity and mortality among persons who experience sudden illness or injury can be reduced.  As a result of the 2010 amendments to the EMS laws, from this point forward all emergency medical service attendants, including first responders (now referred to as “emergency medical responders”) must function pursuant to physician-developed medical protocols.

ADOPTED ACTION OR POLICY

KMS reaffirms its support for the concept that all emergency medical response personnel who provide patient care in pre-hospital settings should function according to physician-developed medical protocols.

Adopted by the KMS House of Delegates on April 30, 2011.
